This book discusses and provides tools for the prevention of myopia (short-sightedness), which in today’s world is increasing dramatically and threatens the sight and health of many.

Preventing myopia is practicable and rewarding, and myopia can also be slowed down in a more advanced age (and often undone to a significant degree).
However, the preconditions for succeeding include:
1) getting the point
2) stamina almost to the extreme, both from the child and the family
3) a degree of financial sacrifice on purchasing spectacles of varying strengths
4) long-term support from a know-ledgeable professional

“This is one of the few books that explain the true cause of myopia – that it is not inherited but is caused by the large amount of close-up focusing we do in our modern society. And the fact that it is written by an eye doctor, when nearly every other eye doctor in the world hides the truth from the public, also makes it worth reading.”
Donald Rehm, president of the International Myopia Prevention Association, USA

“An interesting book which throws light on an important topic. The pedagogical structure is superior. Ophthalmologists and optometrists may get a lot to think about when taking parts of the contents. Key words are eye accomodation, latent hypermetropia, myopia prevention, plus correction, comfortable vision. This is a good continuation of Dr Viikari´s previous books in the same field.”
Bengt Nordberg, optometrist, SWEDEN

“You may wonder, as I did, why a tank fills the cover of a book about “Myopia”. After reading the book cover to cover, I inspected the book jacket again and located the author, a thin Finnish lady, standing in front of the armored tank like the young man did in Tiananmen Square in 1989 as he confronted a Chinese Red Army tank and brought it to a standstill. Here is Kaisu Viikari, an M.D., Ph.D. female pioneer in ophthalmology, standing in the way of the medical establishment to stop their centuries long mistreatment of myopia.”
“These book covers are a lesson in themselves.”

“Great book, let’s hope that many, many people will read it. One day, the children will be grateful if their parents made them following Kaisu Viikari’s advices.”

Koko myopian ehkäisemisen ajatuksena on ihmisen alkuperäisen refraktiotilanteeen tavoittaminen.
